Hawks Year One is a transition from the less structured approach of the Kestrels Reception class to the more formal demands of Year Two. Children are encouraged to be independent and placing a strong emphasis on reading, writing and number work . The curriculum is more structured but seeks to build on the foundation work covered in Reception.

Language, Literacy, Problem Solving, Reasoning and Numeracy have always been at the core of Montessori philosophy. From the pre-reading and writing skills in the nursery to grammatical sentence analysis, children are taught traditional skills alongside creative writing, poetry and word processing. The school gives high priority to the development of numeric skills, ranging from basic number recognition to the complexities of algebra.
